We are pioneering ways to improve line management and employee engagement in all types of business. Current activities include:
- Fast feedback: Line managers have the biggest single impact on employees, yet feedback from staff to their managers is infrequent, often diplomatic and not followed up. Yet front-line employees understand the customers better than any other part of the business, and their engagement is critical to business success. We work with telecoms, retail and manufacturing to engage employees in improving line management and business performance. Every manager gets feedback every month with an emphasis on action. Taking action together builds employee engagement and drives business performance.
- Strategic HR: The Human Resources function can provide valuable, strategic insight to management by connecting employee engagement results to absence, attrition, customer satisfaction and business performance. HR professionals are suddenly able to offer business insights every month, and can target their interventions much more accurately where they have greatest effect.
- Transparency at Work: What do FTSE-100 companies say about their impact on employees? Does public reporting affect what companies do? Double-page features on employee engagement and health & safety in mining are being published in August 2010 in the Observer business section. The first report ranks the FTSE-100 companies according to what they say they do to engage with their employees; the second investigates the effectiveness of health & safety reporting in FTSE-100 mining companies.
